Superyacht Rendezvous

June 14, 2010

Following a hugely successful 2009 Asia Superyacht Rendezvous, organizers are charging forward with the December 16-18, 2010 event that brings together both power and sail Superyachts. Returning principal sponsor, Feadship, joins exclusive media partner Boat International Media, with co sponsors Merle Wood & AssociatesRolling Stock S.A.Asia Pacific Superyachts and host hotel, The Chedi Phuket.

Guests will enjoy three days on and off the water along with two race events, the sampling of Thailand’s culinary delights and taking in the natural beauty of its shores. The emphasis is on a fun gathering with some vessels departing afterwards to explore the Andaman seas during the holiday season.

Exclusive Media Partner, Boat International Media, brings enormous worldwide attention and exposure to the 2010 Asia Superyacht Rendezvous. Magazines under the BIM umbrella include Boat InternationalBoat International GulfShowBoatsBoat International RussiaDockwalkMer & BateausMeer & Yachten and new Boat International China along with significant presence online with a variety of digital products and services, books and supplements.

Organisers of the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous are expanding the festivities from two days to three this year, due to the ever-increasing popularity of the event. The event will run over the 16, 17 and 18 of December and bring both motor and sailing superyachts to Phuket to take part in the longest running superyacht gathering in Asia. The rendezvous will celebrate its tenth year this year and the expanded  agenda is designed to give the increasing number of attendees more time to mingle and enjoy the events on offer. Co-organiser Charles Dwyer explains the aim of the event; “meeting up with the others is wonderful. This is the real point of the rendezvous – it’s primarily a social event. It’s certainly not about winning races. You’ll see people you haven’t seen in a couple of years. And it’s not just owners meeting with other owners and their guests. It’s a chance for crews of different yachts to get together, too.”

This year’s three-day itinerary includes two days of sail and power events, sunset cocktail parties (several aboard superyachts), the famed “Challenge” model boatbuilding contest, a festive crew beach BBQ party and the Boat International Gala Dinner.

With increasing numbers of superyachts calling Asia home, organisers expect the event to keep gathering momentum. Asia Pacific Superyachts GM and event co-organiser, Gordon Fernandes, explains, “For a long time, the Caribbean and Mediterranean have been seen as the stomping ground for yachts. Asia has been the poor relative. But much of that is changing, and this area is set to boom with Phuket as a new yachting hub.”

The 2010 Asia Superyacht Rendezvous, celebrating 10 years of superyacht events in Phuket and Asia, promises to provide a memorable event supported by an outstanding group of sponsors.

Principal sponsor Feadship believes the area is set to gain increasing  recognition as one of the world’s top cruising destinations. “Feadship has a long-established presence in Asia with owners using their yachts in Asia or the traditional yachting grounds such as the Mediterranean. Today, too few yacht owners explore the beautiful Asian waters”, reports BasNederpelt, of Feadship/De Vries.
