September 13, 2011

The TAT-Tin Mine Open 2011 will be held at the Red Mountain Golf Club in Phuket on Oct 22.

The most challenging golf course in Phuket, Red Mountain Golf Club may also be the island's most dramatic.

Sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, MBK and Thanachart Bank, the third edition of the tournament is aimed at promoting the country as a golf destination.

MBK executive vice-president Somboon Wongrassamee said that the tournament had been a success and attracted a large number of golfers and sponsors in the first two editions.

Only 160 golfers will be accepted to join the event, he said.

The winners in the four flights and the overall winner will be allowed to play at the Riverdale Golf Club and stay at the Pathumwan Princess Hotel for free.

TAT deputy governor Thawatchai Arunyik said the tournament would help boost tourism in Thailand in general and in Phuket in particular in the low season.

The TAT has used golf as a tool to woo tourists to the country for a couple of years and the strategy has been a success, he said.

Supalak Tangchitsil from Thanachart Bank said that the Red Mountain Golf Club was one of the best courses in the country and a tournament there would enhance the country’s reputation as a golf destination in the region.
